November 28 20.20 PM
Gainsborough Liberal Democrats have unveiled the team that will run the local party for the coming year. At their recent Annual General Meeting held on Zoom a new Chairman and team of officers were elected.
The new chairman is Lesley Rollings who is a West Lindsey District Councillor and the most recent Gainsborough Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate, standing in the last three general elections. The Honorary President is Neil Taylor, Treasurer Stephen Bunney, Secretary Baptiste Velan, Vice Chair Angela White and Campaign Committee lead, Trevor Young.
On her election Lesley Rollings said "I'm delighted to take on the role of local party chairman for the next year and thank Neil Taylor, the outgoing chairman for all his work in building up the party locally and supporting everything we do. His experience as a longstanding district councillor and a former parliamentary candidate receiving one of our highest ever voting results, has been invaluable this year and I thank him for all he does for everyone in the local party. As a local Liberal Democrat team, we will continue to fight for improvements in our local area and ensure that government provides the support that local people need to get through these difficult times of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"The local Lib Dem team continues to grow and in next year's County Council elections we have a strong team of candidates campaigning for their local communities. As a party that has working with local communities at its heart, we have to find ways of communicating safely with our residents and letting them know that we are still there working for them, often in the background. Our challenge is to work with key decision makers to encourage important investment into our area and ensure that the Gainsborough constituency receives its' fair share of investment to support economic growth in our towns and rural communities. We must continue to take a leading role in our constituency's fight against Climate Change.'
Outgoing Chairman Neil Taylor said "Thank you to everyone for their support and work this year. The Pandemic which has dominated this year has truly shown the measure of the membership of our party. In all our towns and villages our communities have come together to support the lonely and those who have struggled to feed their families. I know from my own experience working alongside others in preparing pack ups for children on free school meals during the half term. This contrasts with our Tory MP who voted against extending support for those in need. In delivering food boxes since the start of the pandemic I have seen the struggle of many families where job losses have meant a reduction in income and an inability to make ends meet. As Liberal Democrats, we must continue to work to make sure that no members of our communities suffer, when they can be helped.'
