General Election 2019 - Lesley in "Lincolnshire Live"
1 - issues
The Gainsborough constituency needs continued drive and investment to re-energise our town centres and communities.
The Lib Dems on West Lindsey District Council have been challenging the Conservatives on their policy of investing over £20 million of taxpayers' money outside our district - a car showroom in Doncaster, a hotel in Keighley and a knicker factory in Sheffield to name but a few!
We would bring council taxpayer's investment into our district, bringing jobs and wealth to the local area, and get rid of business rates.
We would direct investment into road systems and create plans for improved cycle paths and footpaths and put traffic calming measures in place to make the Gainsborough constituency a much more enjoyable and safe place to live and travel.
2 - Brexit
I voted Remain in the referendum - I see myself as European and believe we are better off in Europe.
We now know that leaving the EU will damage our economy and I believe that many people have changed their minds.
For this reason, I would like to put the latest deal to the country with the option to Remain.
3 - qualities
I am an experienced councillor, chairing the overview and scrutiny committee on the district council.
This has given me the skills and confidence to address issues at all levels.
I believe in working closely with local communities to try to support them - in particular on serious issues like flooding and drainage, where local people who have known and worked on the land for years are currently being fobbed off by the Tory-controlled agencies.
As an MP I would work hard and listen to local people and persuade others to invest and make positive improvements into our area.
4 - little-known fact
The year before I was 40, I ran three off-road marathons, a 54-mile North York Moors challenge run and the London Marathon.
I keep thinking that one day I will be that fit again, but local politics seems to have got in the way. That's my excuse anyway!
